THREATS
OF PREDATORS TO SWIFTLET
1. Bird fleas
- Bird fleas are found on the bird droppings; and
like other types of fleas, are hematophagous. Not only do they suck the blood
of swiftlets, bird fleas also suck from humans entering the bird house.
Initially bird fleas are only found on the floor. When they get onto the bird
nests or the swiftlet themselves, it is very serious and may be fatal for
swiftlets.
- Bird fleas spread and multiply in numbers due to
overdue or unharvested bird nests or the bird house is left un-managed over a
long period of time.
Methods of control:
A bird flea repellent can be used to get rid of bird
fleas. You just need to spray the repellent on the floor and walls. This type
of solution is neither harmful to swiftlets nor humans, and is odourless.
IT'S A PREDATOR ALRIGHT? : Bird flea can be considered as a major threat to swiftlet |
2. Human
- Ironically, human considers being the major
factor.
Method of control:
- Sense of humanity itself.
HUMAN HANDS : Ironically, human is also a major threat to bird nest |
